Obituary for Leona Maye Goodman

Leona Maye Goodman passed from this life on Friday, October 6, 2017 in Stephenville, at the age of 93 years.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, October 9th at Stephenville Funeral Home Chapel with Anthony Svajda officiating. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory Cemetery. Visitation will be 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM Sunday at Stephenville Funeral Home.

Leona was born in Wellington, Texas on August 17, 1924, to the late Elbert R. Vandiver and Annie May Hurst Vandiver. She was the oldest of five children. Leona married the late William James ‘Bill’ Goodman on February 15, 1944 in Stephenville. After they married they purchased a farm in Lingleville, and farmed peanuts and produce until they moved to Stephenville in 1979. They had sixty five wonderful year of marriage. Bill preceded her in death on February 24, 2009. They had three children, 7 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Leona was a faithful follower of the Lord Jesus Christ, and was a member at Harvey Baptist Church in Stephenville for over 45 years. Leona was an amazing seamstress, working in sewing factories throughout Erath County. Leona was a faithful, devoted wife, and mother, always caring for her family and many friends, through her amazing gifts of hospitality, serving, and ministry.

Leona is survived by her children, Donna and husband Troy Hoffman of Stephenville, Howard and wife Annie Goodman of Acton, and Grant and wife Nan Goodman of Stephenville; grandchildren, Meredith Bogges of Oklahoma City, Rebekah Jonas of Jacksboro, Shawn Goodman of Venus, Chance Goodman of Mansfield, Claire Ratliff of Chicago, Caden Goodman of Stephenville, and Chloe Goodman of Stephenville, great grandchildren, Cella, Alyssa, Alec, Kadyn, Kaylie, Erin, Eli, and Jane; sisters, Audrey Burdett of Plano, and Tabitha McClellan of Stephenville.

Besides her parents and husband, Leona was also preceded in death by brothers, Charles Rogin Vandiver and John Ralph Vandiver.

The Goodman family wishes expressions of sympathy be made in the form of donations to the building fund at Harvey Baptist Church.
