Jay Dee Bishop, 78, of Stephenville passed away Thursday, September 14, 2017 in Stephenville.

The family will host a visitation from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM, Sunday, September 17 at Stephenville Funeral Home. A private family graveside service will be held at a later date.

Jay was born on July 18, 1939 in Stephenville to the late William Bradford “Billy” and Mildred Lee Moore Bishop. He married Irene Schaffner in Morfelden, Germany on May 25, 1960. Irene preceded him in death on September 14, 1997. Jay proudly served his country in the United States Airforce from August of 1957 to August of 1961. He graduated from Stephenville High School in 1957. In 1971, Jay graduated with Honors from Tarleton State University with an Ag degree. He retired from Brazos Electric in 1997 after working as a Mechanical Technician for many years. Jay was a member of the Church of Christ and had resided in Stephenville for most of his life.

Those left to cherish his memory are his children, Billy Jack Bishop and wife Julie of Weatherford, Joel Bishop and wife Jennifer of Bluff Dale, Lora Howle and husband Randy of Stephenville, and Cindy Carver and husband Lloyd of Bluff Dale; grandchildren, Kourtney Spradling and husband B. J., Ashley Penny, Jay Bradford Bishop and wife Kristen, Whitney Langley and husband Robert, Brandon Howle and wife Whitney, Cody Howle and wife Chelsea, Colton Carver, Bryan Bishop and wife Shelby, Dylan Howle, Kori-Ann Kaniaupio, and Kayla Kaniaupio; great grandchildren, Ayden Penny, Tripp Langley, Landen Penny, Tess Langley, Tyce Langley, Brilee Jo Bishop, and Carter Howle; brother, Jackie Lee Bishop and family; sister, Jennie Mae Cherry and family; and extended family, Heath Fron and family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Irene; and a sister, Joan Bishop.
