Sammy G. Helmers
Sammy G. Helmers, 79, of Stephenville, died Tuesday, November 15, 2016 in Stephenville.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM Saturday, November 19th at Harvey Baptist Church with Anthony Svajda officiating. Burial will follow at Johnson Cemetery. Visitation will be 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM Friday at Stephenville Funeral Home.

Sammy was born on September 13, 1937 in San Angelo to the late Alfred and Nora Lee Freeman Helmers. He married Jean Bounds on August 13, 1960 in McCamey, Texas. Sammy grew up in the community of Girvin, Texas, spent several years in the Midland Odessa area, and retired to Stephenville, where he has lived many years. He was a member of the Harvey Baptist Church. Sammy retired after 30 years with the Texas A&M Extension Service as a Horticultural Specialist. He loved being an Aggie, a gardener and rancher, and playing dominos and cards.

Sammy is survived by his wife, Jean; daughters, Debbie and husband Ricky Carpenter of Stephenville, and Donna and husband Mike Pasquino of Aurora, Indiana; grandchildren; Kaja Carpenter and Brent and his wife Chelsea Carpenter, and their children, Brady, Kylee and Brooks; brother, Ellis and wife Lynda Helmers of Sanderson, Texas; sister, Vicki and husband Daryl Krug of Fritch, Texas; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Sammy was also preceded in death by two nephews, ‘little’ Alfred Helmers and Jason Helmers.

The Helmers family wishes expressions of sympathy be made in the form of donations to Harvey Baptist Church, Samaritan Place, Camp Summit, or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
